This two-day intensive course will help you find your funny by giving you the essential tools to develop and create sketches suitable for Stage, Television or online content. Perfect for writers and performers looking to produce original sketch comedy.
Content:
This course aims to teach the necessary ingredients needed for sketch writing from initial idea, development, all the way through to writing a sketch show suitable for broadcast television. This in-depth two day course allows writers and performers to create and develop their sketches based on industry standard timeframes and work practices including a professional comedy writer’s room.
Course Content:
- Unlocking comedic potential within yourself, how to get the most from your talents and have fun with your creations.
- Differentiating all styles of sketch comedy from satire to pop culture trends, to find which genre suits best you’re writing or performing.
- Development and creation of original comedy sketches suitable for today’s media outlets including broadcast television, social media and YouTube.
- Learn sketch formatting and structure relevant to style of show.
- Exploring how to work with talent from a single performer to an ensemble cast.
- Writing a sketch show within a real-time comedy writer’s room environment including pitching, scripting until broadcast and working with talent.
- Help and advice for potential future projects within the sketch comedy realm.
Tutor: Stephen Shields
Stephen is an award winning comedy writer who has worked on some of the most popular comedy series broadcast on national TV, with some of the funniest comic talent the country has to offer. Since winning RTE STORYLAND 2010 with his web series “ZOMBIE BASHERS” he has gone on to work on numerous comedy shows on RTE including Callan’s Kicks, Foul Play, This is Ireland with Des Bishop and as the longest serving sketch writer on RTE’s The republic of Telly.
