This course is open to everyone and is especially suitable for first-time feature producer/director teams. The course will include a case study of a recent Irish feature film.
Intro:
Do you want to know what it takes to produce a low budget Feature Film? This course returns to Filmbase with experienced Producer, Garret Daly (Who is Dearbhla Murphy?, A Nightingale Falling). Using successful low budget films as case studies, this course is theory based with some practical exercises. This programme is ideal for first-time Director and Producers of low budget feature films.

Lead Tutor: Garret Daly
Garret Daly is an award winning director/producer. In 2001 he established the film and television company Mixed Bag Media.
His extensive documentary and television career includes the award winning film ‘Who is Dervla Murphy?’ which focused on the unique Irish travel writer. Released in Irish cinemas in 2016 the film has also screened internationally at numerous festivals and is now available worldwide on VOD.
In 2014 Garret co-directed his first fiction feature film entitled ‘A Nightingale Falling’. Following a premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh the film had a six week run at the Irish box office and went on to receive a Best Actress IFTA nomination for Tara Breathnach, Best Film at the Sky Road Film Festival, Best Feature at the Underground Film Festival in Dublin, a Best Drama Score at the Reel Music Awards and an Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking from the Newport Beach Film Festival. The film has also achieved multiple sales internationally. Garret has produced and directed over ten short films including the award-winning ‘Bogman’ and ‘Last Confession’.
His work has screened at many notable film festivals including – Rhode Island International Film Festival, Banff Mountain Film Festival, Galway Film Fleadh, Cork International Film Festival, Chicago and Newport Beach Film Festival.
He has also directed the feature documentary ‘A Grand Experience’ for RTÉ, an eight part TV documentary series for TV3 entitled ‘Grassroots of the GAA’, the RTÉ Storyland runner up ‘Rental Boys’, various short films and numerous radio documentaries and series for RTÉ Radio One and RTÉ Lyric FM.
He lectures in film and radio production at the Institute of Technology in Tallaght on their Creative Digital Media Degree. Garret is currently in pre-production of his new feature film with the Irish Film Board.
